Knee Pain Treatment
The knee is one of the hardest-working joints in the body, absorbing significant forces during walking, running, climbing stairs, sport, and everyday activities. Because of its role in movement, the knee can be vulnerable to both acute injuries and longer-term wear and tear.
Common causes of knee pain include ligament sprains, cartilage injuries, meniscal tears, patellofemoral pain (runner’s knee), tendon problems, bursitis, osteoarthritis, and sporting injuries. Knee pain can also be influenced by the way the hip, pelvis, ankle, and foot function, which is why a whole-body assessment is often important.
The muscles surrounding the knee, including the quadriceps, hamstrings, calves, and glutes, play a vital role in supporting movement and stability. Weakness, reduced mobility, muscle imbalance, or altered movement patterns can increase stress on the joint and contribute to ongoing symptoms.
Your osteopath or sports therapist will carry out a thorough assessment, including movement analysis, strength testing, and orthopaedic examination where appropriate, to identify the underlying cause of your knee pain.
Treatment may include hands-on therapy, sports massage, rehabilitation exercises, strength and conditioning advice, taping where appropriate, and movement retraining. The goal is to reduce pain, improve function, and help you return confidently to work, exercise, and the activities you enjoy.
