Foot & Ankle Pain Treatment

Our feet and ankles absorb significant forces every day, whether we’re walking, running, exercising, or simply going about daily life. Because they form the foundation of the body’s movement, problems in the foot and ankle can sometimes contribute to pain elsewhere, including the knees, hips, pelvis, and lower back.

Common causes of foot and ankle pain include sprains, tendon injuries, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, joint stiffness, instability, overuse injuries, and sports-related conditions. Changes in foot mechanics, such as reduced arch support or altered movement patterns, can also place additional strain on surrounding structures.

Foot and ankle injuries are particularly common in runners and active individuals, where repetitive loading can lead to irritation of muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints. However, these problems can affect anyone, regardless of activity level.

Your osteopath or sports therapist will carry out a thorough assessment of your foot and ankle, as well as how they interact with the rest of your body. This may include analysing movement patterns, balance, strength, flexibility, and overall biomechanics to identify the factors contributing to your symptoms.

Treatment may include hands-on therapy, sports massage, rehabilitation exercises, strengthening programmes, mobility work, and advice on activity modification. The goal is to reduce pain, improve function, and help you return confidently to sport, exercise, and everyday activities.
