Pregnancy & Infant Treatment

Pregnancy brings many changes to the body, and it is common to experience discomfort as your baby grows. Changes in posture, weight distribution, and hormone levels can place additional strain on the joints, muscles, and ligaments, sometimes leading to symptoms such as lower back pain, pelvic girdle pain, hip pain, mid back discomfort, or neck and shoulder tension.

Osteopathic treatment during pregnancy is gentle, safe, and tailored to your stage of pregnancy. Treatment aims to improve comfort, support mobility, and help you manage the physical demands that pregnancy places on your body.

Osteopathy for Babies and Infants

Osteopaths receive training in paediatric care, and Caroline has undertaken additional postgraduate training in paediatric osteopathy. She has developed strong working relationships with local healthcare professionals and regularly works alongside midwives and lactation consultants to help support families when appropriate.

Caroline has a close professional relationship with Rea Halstead, a local midwife and IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant). For more information about Rea and her services, please visit www.reahalstead.co.uk.

Caroline offers assessments and treatment for babies and infants, including home visit appointments for infants up to 6 months of age where appropriate.

Osteopathic treatment for babies is very gentle and differs significantly from treatment provided to adults. Every assessment is tailored to the individual child, taking into account their birth history, development, movement patterns, and any concerns parents may have.

Parents often seek an osteopathic assessment following a difficult birth, assisted delivery, head-turning preferences, or when they have concerns about their baby’s comfort, movement or development. Treatment is always gentle, age-appropriate, and focused on supporting your baby’s wellbeing.

As with all healthcare professionals, your osteopath will advise when further medical assessment is appropriate and will work alongside your GP, health visitor, midwife, paediatrician, or other healthcare providers where necessary.
